i purchased a 1985 procraft today and seen a soft spot when i looked to buy . when i got home i started to remove carpet and decking and found lots of rot and termites.i removed all the rotted wood i could get to and sprayed throughly with termite killer.i do have some concerns with the wood i cannot see under rear deck and front deck.my question is this is the wood a majior support for the boat or is it just support the deck. the fiberglass surrounding the wood is good. but i know there is more rot under the rear deck. transom and rear battrie and gastank seem to be ok .were do i get the foam from to replace old it was infested with termites to . i purchased some 1x6 runners to replace the joist and a 4x8 x1/2 treated marine plywood to replace deck. next thing is on my motor the fin on the bottom was broken today by the guy i bought it from and i was in a hurry to get to work and did not notice should i be concerned with this. thanks for any help. i have some pics of rot on computer if that would help.

Re: rottin deck and joist trying to replace

Welcome to Iboats. I'm in the same process you are. Found that I don't have wood in my stringers, but they were designed that way. In your case, if there was wood already there, then is structural and you probably only have a relatively thin layer of glass around it. I would probaby replace. As far as the foam, I will be doing that as well as soon as it warms up. The best price that I found for 2 part Polyeurethane foam has been at US Composites. You can order it at www.uscomposties.com Post some of your pics. Good Luck! I'm sure that you'll enjoy this site, I'm fairly new to boat repair and have found this site invaluable, and actually have gotten the courage to take the job on.

Paul
http://www.shareaproject.com/projectThumbs.php?p=23
