My 26' Chris Craft has cancer of the bulkhead. I have just discovered an area of the bulkhead, that seperates the head and engine room, that has severe rot. I have cut out as much as I can but there is still a little left that I can cut because of the position of the engine.

I don't want to leave this cancerous part in there. Is there a way to strengthen the wood other than fiberglass?

Re: rotting wood

You should get some saturating epoxy like "Git Rot" and saturate where you cannot get to.I dont think it will add much strength, but it will stop the rot from spreading.Charlie

Re: rotting wood

Go to rottdoctor.com for very informative info. I used git rot on a floor panel. It seemed to get very hard but also brittle. Good luck

Re: rotting wood

I have had some success repairing rotten wood that cannot be removed.Assuming the rotten wood is not in a critical structural position.
I drill many small holes about 3/8, like swiss cheese.
Then mixing West System epoxy (my favourite) with just enough fibre mixing powder, Not micro spheres, but a glue mix powder. The idea is to thicken the epoxy just enough to still be liquid, then filling an epoxy syringe with the glue and injecting it into the many holes drilled in the rotten wood.
When this cures the result is incredibly hard, hard enough to hammer!
Remember to smooth the surface before the epoxy sets as it is hard to sand. Sand a little then hide the whole mess behind a coat of paint.
Same technique can be used for plywood delamination, drill into the cavity, then inject epoxy.
