Rough idle THEN ran great

I have a 2006 Monterey 214fs. Running the 5.0 MPI. Owned it two weeks and today ran for about 30 min then decided to float. I don't have an anchor yet so roughly 4 times I idled a few minutes to re-position us. When it was time to leave the engine ran very poor and wanted to die as I gave more gas. It felt like a fuel problem. After a few attempts I let it sit. Out of nowhere I start it and seemed fine. I thought I'd limp home so kept it around 1100 rpm for a while. I got impatient and hit it. 3500rpm was great. No problems. Even idling to the boat launch in the no wake zone was okay. Not sure how old the gas is so I filled the tank. Put in 36 gallons to a 55 gallon tank. I'll put in some sea foam in the morning. Any thoughts???

Yeah sounds like fuel.

Sounds like bad TPS but generally it's consistent.

Below 1kish rpm would be iac those are notorious on those motors, those go bad on the cars all the time too lol.

Did you have the ignition on the whole time you were floating?

Yes, it ran, just not well. Only stalled once while giving it lots of gas. It ran fine my last three outings so thought it may be fuel or blockage. So a TPS or IAC?

Do NOT leave ingiton on without engine running, you will damage stuff.
You could have heated up the coil.

Oh, I see what you're asking. Ignition was not left on. Just some quick re-starts to re-position. I filled the gas tank. Put 35 fresh gallons in a 55 gallon tank. Went out today and did the same type of boating-a long cruise with some short idling. I had no issues what so ever. Chance I am running some old gas before my fill up?

I'm leaning toward either vapor lock or dirty fuel filter. Don't see any issue with old gas, TPS or IAC, the symptoms don't agree in my opinion. How hot was the weather in your area?

When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced? What is your engine serial number?

It DOES sound vapor lock related, but I'd feed her a few new tanks of ethanol free fuel and see if that makes her happier. A filter is either clogged or not. Like being pregnant? LOL The fact that she ran fine afterward, and for an extended period of time, leads me to believe ya got some bad dino squeezin's.
