Royal Atlas ?

I recently bought a outboard model 5D10A Serial 488310 I need coils and a carb kit. I have been reading past posts looks like a royal atlas? where/ who has parts, manual etc ? Do johnson parts fit this model if so how do you know what parts fit etc ? I have a ton of questions thanks for any help.

Coils and a carb kit may be available right here at the Iboats marine store. Google Ken Cook marine manuals to find one of those. That's a 51-54 Gale 5 hp. Use 24:1 mix and TCW-3 marine oil. Stout, reliable motors.

The coils are available at iboats, same magneto as Johnsons. However, the carburetor is strictly Gale and there is no such thing as a kit. Get packings, etc from an Evinrude dealer. The cork float is obsolete. Modify the Mercury float from iboats. I ran my 5D10 on the lake yesterday. Never missed a beat.

Did the Gale/omc's ever have fuel pumps or were they all gravity fed does anyone use them with remote tanks ? thanks

I think fuel pumps on Gales actually pre-dated fuel pumps on Johnson/Evinrudes, but not sure. One that old isn't equipped for a fuel pump though. They are real good on fuel though...not thirsty at all.

The bottom feed carburetors won't work on a fuel pump. Ask me how I know. I already tried it. The pressure holds the float pin up and gas can't get in.

the 5D10 has a .8 gal. tank with approximately a 1hr run time at wot.
FR I had a thought If you put a T in on the output of the fuel pump
with an adjustable valve or a pinhole to simply bleed some of the pressure back into the supply side maybe you could relieve enough pressure from the bottom feed carb to have it work.Of course if there is a check valve at the tank wouldn't bleed very well. Well this is not the place to ponder a fuel pump cob job.

Yeah, with experience in hydraulics, my first wild/dumb idea was a pressure relief valve. But with only needing a pressure of a couple of inches of fuel height, it would have to be a mighty low relief setting and capable of bypassing a large volume of fuel. Like you say, no place for wild ideas.

Hey thanks for the help guys I just picked up a donor engine for parts a 47 monkey wards with no shift but it had a tank and side covers. When mounting the tank and side covers does anyone rubber mount these things? I also had a freind give me a tanaka game fisher 3 hp on a canoe it is a kick . Hopefuly I will get the atlas royal running in a week or two I found the coils and points and cond. Is the water pump impeller on my atlas royal the same as a 5.5 johnnyrude??
