Got a new boat (2001 Chapparal Sunesta 252) with the 7.4L MPI Mercruiser that I am finally getting summerized. Came from Texas at 1000' elevation to Wyoming at 6000' elevation. After a lake test dealer says it is putting out 3800 rpm @46 mph & that "I need to re-prop it to get the rpm's up to plane faster & get it to where it needs to be". Very rarely will I even have it at WOT. Just plan on doing some tubing with the kids, fishing & cruising (at speeds below the 3800 rpm). Is it necessary to re-prop? With the low rpm's now, will it eventually ruin the engine if I don't re-prop by running at lower rpm at WOT (rarely will). Sorry for all the questions & my lack of knowledge on the subject. I just don't want to potentially ruin the engine & need a little guidance & understanding. I tried to do some searching & couldn't get anything to pull up when I searched for WOT, RPM, 7.4L

You should be in the mid 4k at WOT. Even if you don't plan on running at WOT you are lugging the engine even at lower RPMs.

4200-4600 is the WOT specs for that engine.

Yes you need to reprop, it's a lot cheaper than a new engine.
