Took the boat for ride over the weekend, My rpm gauge would almost go all the way around with little throttle? Also when i shut the motor off it would stop at 3? Do the guages go bad? Or do you think somthing more is wrong? Never saw this happen before!!

Ayuh,... Of course they go Bad....

Before ya toss it, 'n replace it,...
Pull it out, 'n look at the back of it,...
If it's got a selector switch,...
Rotate it several times, movin' it back to where it belongs,...
Ya might get another lap out of it by doin' that....

With the motor running, reach your hand back there and while watching the tach, jiggle the wires a bit to check for loose/bad connections. Then remove, check, clean and tighten all wires and connections to the Tachometer. You could also have a bit of corrosion on the fuse(in-line or block), remove, clean, a touch of grease, replace. Humidity of marine environment plays heck with wiring/connections. That and what Bond-O said, you may be O.K., OR ready for a new Tachometer. Good Luck!:)

Mine was doing the same thing, it had a bad connection. Like said above.
