I have a 1991 VIP Fish N Ski I/O Mericruiser 150 HP with an Alpha 1. The boat runs great and starts right up. But when I run the boat the RPM gauge does its own thing. The motor runs fine and never does anything that im not telling it to do but the RPM gauge will go from 800 to pegged then drop back down without changing the throttle. Does the Gauge need to be replaced or is there a connection that I need to check or a cable that could have gone bad. Thanks.

Sorry, my crystal ball's off-line today... How about you actually get in there and check the connections yourself? Take a DMM and check for power on the back of the gauge (purple for + and black for -) and then check the tan wire for signal from the coil....

Ayuh,... It's electric, run on wires...

On the back of the gauge, there may be a selector, for 4, 6, 8....
Switch it back, 'n forth a few times, reset it to where it belongs, 'n Try it....

Otherwise, Ya, it's probably Beat...
