I have a '89 40 hp on a 17' Tracker Pro Deep Vee. This came as a package from Tracker. I can get about 5200 @WOT, with a 11.75" x 17 3 blade alum. prop. That was the prop on it when I bought the rig used, and replaced it with same when the hub spun out a couple of seasons ago. I normally run @ 3800 or so, the boat planes well and I get good fuel economy at this setting, but reading other threads makes me wonder if it's better to run higher even if it uses more fuel with not much more speed. I usually run @ WOT for a little while at the end of each trip. My question is: am I working this engine too hard by cruising @ 3800? It seems to be very happy there.

Re: RPM question, 40 hp evinrude

your top end rpms are fine, the reason for getting the motor propped at 5000-5500 is so the motor works properly at all rpms.

your not hurting the motor, a good run at the end of the day, or during the day is good.
