I just bought a 150 hp mercury power tilt outboard and the guy that I bought it from said something about not going over 5500 rpm for too long but I read in one of your other post about a 150 outboard that you should run it over 5500 rpm to keep the cylinders clead or something like that can you give me any advice please?
thanks.
Don

Re: rpm question

Basically you want to run your motor at its designated RPM range. You will have to play the prop setup after the motor is on your boat, to achieve correct operating RPM range. Some outboards that are "Hopped" up from the factory, run higher RPMs. So bottom line is check your manual to see what the designated RPM range of your motor is and prop it out to meet that range. And yes it is good to run it at WOT(wide open throttle) for a little while to blow it out. :p :D
