A quick question for my dad. He has a '01 Merc 50hp 2 stroke and will not allow the motor to rev over 4800. I finally showed him the in owners manual where that rpm was for the break-in period. While I had the manual, I tried to find the recomended max rpm (wot) for this motor (to help determine if he has the correct prop on it), but it wasn't listed. So, can somebody give me a idea? I'm thinking from what I've read on these boards that the motor should be turning between 5400 & 5800rpm at wot with the correct prop. Am I even in the ballbark?

TIA

Yes, you are right on the money.

5000-5500 recommended on that motor. But many people are running in the 6000 range.

Its time to let that motor run!!!

Re: Rpm range?

I guess the question is, will it run over 4800 or is he holding it back to 4800? If it will run 5500, but he prefers to keep it at 4800, then all is well...
