Although this engine is a 2003, it only has 51 hours. After about 5 minutes of operation the RPM's begin to drop and the engine will stop. It starts back up immediately and then it will do the same thing after about 5 minutes of operation, The gauges are all normal. Oil pressure 40 plus, temperature 160. The gas is new, 89 octane. I am thinking fuel filter but cannot locate it. I traced the line from the Holley Carb to the fuel pump but did not find a filter. Engine is a 3.0 GSB Volvo Penta.

i had a similar issue on a 3.0 GS and it seems it was a wrongly installed ( inverted) and clogged fuelpump filter . i would recommend to check / replace it .

it happened on to me only on very hot days so i,m still wondering if the volvo 3.0 is sensitive to vapor locks .

So the filter is inside the fuel pump? How do I access it?

i just checked if your engine has the same pump like mine GS PNCA , but it seems it has soo...

the filter is on the lower side of the fuel pump, a tiny filter element inside the filter housing held by a V clamp. you have to unscrew the lower side of the clamp and it comes off. the procedure in installing it is not unimportant. don posted a procedure from volvo how to replace it and it helped me.

check also the filter which goes into the carb and sits on the end of the metal fuel line .

Turns out that it was apparently some water in the gas tank. I added Sta-Bil and also a can that is designed to remove water from the tank and now the engine runs great.
