Hello folks. reading the manual on reinstalling my intake manifold on a 1983 mercruiser 470. The manual says something about applying rtv on the low portion of the cylinder head and apply perfect seal on both sides of the new gasket. I know sometimes these instructions are updated. I have always installed my intake manifold gaskets dry and never had a problem. The one i removed looked like it was installed dry.
Question: If i install this with out the perfect seal do you anticipate me having leaks or are the newer gaskets ok dry installed now?

What is the reason for the rtv. I dont see what it is sealing?

Thank you for your help.

Ok scrap the rtv part of the question. I see that is for when you move the cylinder head. Still questioning the perfect seal on the intake manny gasket?

Thank you.

If the gasket is paper, use the sealer.

I never use silicone RTV around the intake runners of the intake manifold. The fuel will disolve the silicone, causing gasket vacuum leaks. I always use permatex Aviators sealer around the runner openings and silicone form-a-gasket around everything else. There may be some newer stuff out there that isn't effectecd by the gas, but I'm too lazy to check into it.
