I am putting my engine back together and I need to reinstall the exhaust stack. I have manuals from two different sources but nothing is said about re-attaching the stack. This is a two stroke engine and I know the exhaust temp gets very high, but how high at the adapter plate attachment point?

I am using RTV with 600 degree limit - will this work?

Re: RTV on Exhaust tower at adapter plate

hello
what motor is this? I usually recommed against any silly cone
it leaks
period
use omc adhesive M or quicksilver perfect seal or OMC gasket sealing compound. I know chysler/force used silliy cone for years. I can put one together with gel-seal and adhisiveM and perfect seal and they wont leak and the silly cone plugging of the recirc system is no longer.
Good luck and keep posting

Re: RTV on Exhaust tower at adapter plate

The engine is a Force 85 HP.

>use omc adhesive M or
>quicksilver perfect seal or
>OMC gasket sealing compound

When I looked at the adapter plate I found way too much rtv every in places it shouln't be. Someone had put about a 1/4 in all over the plate and when it was assembled it plugged up everything, what a mess.

From what you have posted I guess temps are not an issue at the exhaust stack?

hello letsfly.
if your using a gasket between the two I would use the OMC gasket sealing compound or the quicksilver perfect seal(same stuff). if no gasket I would use omc adhesive M
or OMC gel seal or the loc tite equivalent
good luck and keep posting and now you see just one of the many reasons I dont like silly cone
