Rub Rail issue

Hi guys! Well , I hit the dock a bit too hard Sunday and the rubrail rubber took the brunt of the hit:redface:. The rubber pulled out about two feet from the chrome strip. I tried putting the rubber back in and found that it seemed to have stretched! I've got a bit like 4 inches that just loops out because of no room! Do I trim it to fit or what do I do to shrink it a bit if it is possible? I looked all the way around the boat and found no gaps.

I had a similar thing happen. Mine seemed to be stretched too. I was able to work it all back into the rail, it just took some time and some shoving on the rail that I had already inserted. For lack of a better term, I "squished" it back together.

Hmmm....Sounds like a bigger boat is needed! (Hey, any excuse you can think of, right? :D)

Thanks heatseeker, I'll try that. Yep, Beefer, a bigger boat would do but love the wife more.:D

If you love the wife more than the boat then you NEED a better boat :) Seriously though try to pull out more of the rubber. It sounds like it stretched some of what is still in the rail. Pull out a few feet of the rubber to release the tension and then put it back in. A hot day outside or a heat gun will make the rubber easier to work with.

Kender, I tried your suggestion and it worked!! No stretch or extra rubber. I pulled out a bit extra and let it set in the sun three days. Put it back in and viola! Thanks to all of you, this forum is awesome! :)
