Rug Removal?

Hi
Our old family boat has now become my own personal responsibility. Its an '84 Thundercraft. A very popular boat in its day. I've been getting it ready for the lake and I want to make at least a few upgrades. The main thing I really want to do is get rid of the rug, so it's not so.... ratty a boat. The bow rugs unscrew and come right up. The rest of the rug is glued down, and when you peal it back, the black rug backing and the glue remains. Ideally I want to remove all the rug, even the side rug ideally, and paint the floor with that white rubberized paint, the grippy stuff. I'm assuming this paint is good for barefoot use? But I don't know how to get the glue off if I completely remove the rug. And I'm doing this all myself so I can't go too crazy with it.

Thanks in advance for any advice you have :)

Re: Rug Removal?

Probably the easiest and cheapest way would be to use a wide blade scraper - stiff - and scrape up what you can with that. Then a sander with some 80# paper. What is left might possibly come off with some acetone or even some citrus remover. I'm assuming that this is being removed from a wood deck?

goggles, mask, old clothes, shop vac, angle grinder with a good wire wheel, will take it up. get as much off with a scraper, the get the rest with the grinder. i will be dusty, but getting rid of the toilet mat is worth it. carpet has no place in a boat.
