rule 1000 bilge pump replacement

I have a friend that has a searay I/O and the pump is burned out..he has bought a new replacement 1000 but the instructions for mounting it are for a different pump and we can't figure out how to remove the lower section from the upper as we intend to use the original lower section and put the new upper half on it.. hopefully this plan will work.

Twist it to the right and it should come off the old mounting base.

Don't think that will work Summer fun. this is one of the square pumps. the instructions he got were for a round pump with 2 "pinch tabs" that lock into the upper housing. this square one may do the same but I'll be darned if I can figure it out...

Ayuh,... All the Rule pumps I've messed with use the lockin' tabs....
Findin' 'em is another thing sometimes though...

Are the New replacement pump, 'n the ole burnt out pump, the Same pump,..??
You have the new 1, in hand, 'n can't figure out how to pop the base,..??
If This is the pump, I'm guessin' Squeezing it about midway on the sides, Should release it,...

Its easy to do if you're holding it in your hand but reaching into a bilge with just one hand its easier to slip a knife blade in one side.

Thanks guys! It's open! It took a combination of pinching and prying but it popped open and nothing broke.....I guess we were somewhat timid about cracking the plastic...anyway,,much thanks...
