Rule Fully Automatic Bilge Pump

I purchased a Rule bilge pump. It automatically kicks on every 2 1/2 minutes for 1 second and measures the load against the impeller which determines if it needs to stay on or not. Supposedly a very low current draw. My question is this: I will be running the negative wire to the negative buss connected to my fuse/switch panel but I do not have a 3-way switch....just On/Off. There are two additional wires, 1 brown and 1 brown/white. The directions state the brown wire connects to the automatic side of the switch and the brown/white connects to the manual side of the switch.

It says for 2-wire installation, eliminating the manual override option, the 3rd wire (brown/white) must be sealed and secured high above the bilge water. If I do that....does that mean that I will just keep the switch in the "ON" position all of the time and it will kick on as needed?? Or will "ON" keep it running 100% of the time and I'm essentially losing the "Automatic" nature of the pump. I think, and hope, it's the first scenario but I just want to be sure before I hook it up and finalize things. Thanks in advance for any input!!!

Re: Rule Fully Automatic Bilge Pump

The brown/white wire would turn the bilge pump on if you had it hooked to a switch and turned that switch on. If Im reading it right, the brown wire should be hooked to something that will give the bilge pump power all the time. That way if you did accidentally turn the switch off, given the brown wire is hooked to the switch, the pump would still automatically kick on. I would hook that brown/white wire to the switch so you can turn it on whenever you want then hook the brown wire to a constant power. Thats how its wired in our boat at least. I can have everything turned off and the bilge will still kick on if needed.

Re: Rule Fully Automatic Bilge Pump

That makes sense. So if I run the manual wire to the switch and the automatic straight to the battery I would have the best of both worlds?

I got caught up in there needing to be a 3-way switch, which I don't have, and completely ignored the possibility of going straight to the battery.

Thanks for the advice!

I would buy a bilge pump without that feature. Thats a battery killer.
