Rule Mate 1500 stays on for 5-10 mins after Manual or Auto mode is enabled... (10 amp fuse)

I have cleaned the internals..

It just keeps sucking long after the bilge are is dry. Is this the way it is designed?

No. Whether the float switch is internal to the pump, or an external switch, it's getting stuck in the 'up' position. Have any oil in the bilge that would gum up the switch, or debris that might be holding the float arm up? If the answer is no, you need a new float switch.

That series of pump doesn't use a mechanical float switch but rather a sensor (recognizes the dielectric constant of water) built into to pump to recognize the water level. I have a similar pump on my small boat. It will run after all the water is gone. Mine does for about a minute but not 5-10 minutes. Somehow it is still sensing water being present. Maybe there is a crack in the housing allowing a little water inside that doesn't go away quickly keeping the sensor active. I am not sure what the immediate fix would be.

Another new thing I learned today. I guess the pump's designed to run dry w/o damaging the impeller.

many bilge pumps can run dry. the problem is when they run the battery dry, too.

Yes because you can test it by just touching a spot on the pump and holding your finger there for a few seconds to see if it kicks on.

It has an internal magnetic float. It also has a large circuit board internally. I will take it apart soon and check again.
