Ok so ive heard that this ethanol gas in not made for the older outboards such as mine 1965 merc 650 kfier?? I was wondering if i should add a octane booster ,or sumn else to help keep carbs clean , and motor running swell as i am anal about my boat and its performance ?? seems to be fine but have only ran a couple times last year, got it at end of the year ..Is the gas gnna affect it long term , and what can i do to prevent any troubles besides winterizing properly .. does the two stroke oil act as a stabalizer i heard it does, or do i need to add sumn ?? And what is the best two stroke oil to use for this motor,as well as ,mixture i beleive its 50:1 wich is what i benn using i beleive just double checking thanks in advanced for all ur help as this is not in the manual thank u !!!

Even most of the newer boats aren't made for ethanol gas. The best thing you can do to your gas and for your engine is use an ethanol neutralizing additive, the second best thing is use a gasoline stabilizer if your boat is going to sit dormant.

ethanol by itself isn't a problem, other than phase separation at least. The bigger problems happen when you have a 50 year old fuel system, because ethanol is a great cleaner! It will dissolve all those years of buildup, and they may end up lodging in the carb passages.

Also, stay away from octane boosters. Ethanol already has extremely high octane, that isn't a problem. Almost all boosters are also worthless, they won't do anything to the octane.

sooo the two-stroke oil does not act as a stabalizer then when sitting ??? wasnt sure if u can still add it wen adding oil to gas ??

though eth has a higher octane rating than gas it actually produces less energy per litre .therefore it is less efficent in actuallity.your merc is 50:1 ratio also .i had the same motor, it was a good girl.

Add your 2 stroke oil.
Always use a fuel stabilizer.
Use an ethanol specific stabilizer if you buy gas with ethanol.
Try not to buy more gas than you will use in 30-60 days.

The ethanol will go to work at eating up the gaskets, o-rings, fuel lines, and fuel pump diaphragms, as they are not ethanol resistant.

Buy ethanol free gas if you can.

The only difference between red stabilizer and "Marine ethanol treatment" is the color of the dye.

The MSDS are identical.

The Marine Stabiler has four time as much "additive mixture"

Why not just use non ethanol gas to begin with? Find a station or stations that sell it and give them your business. Be sure and let them know you are buying their gas specifically because it is non ethanol.
Whenever I fill up my boat's 40 gallon tank at one of my local non ethanol stations I make sure to tell them that's why I just spend $160 at their place.

Non-ethanol fuel is not always an option. You'll be ahead in the game by addressing the issues that E10 presents instead of relying on a work around that may, or may not, be an option in the future.

All gas stations around my neck of the woods sell ethanol but one. The ones that do sell ethanol, a lot of them sell premium that doesn't contain ethanol. So I use premium since the non ethanol station doesn't sell near enough gas for my liking..... You may want to take a close look at premium in your area and what it contains, if anything......
