How long can you safely run a cold engine without the outdrive and water?

Ayuh,... It depends on how well burnt ya want all the rubber parts in the exhaust system....

Feed a hose right to the T-stat housing...

I wouldn't! But you can tape up or make a bell that fits in to lower water pump hose so you don't run it dry!

Never do that!!!!!!!!! Always run fresh water in her either through the lower unit with ears or through the t stat housing as stated above.........never i repeat never rev it hard out of the water or you could be spending a crap load of money.........have a nice day and happy boating.......
