running i/o w/o outdrive

is it OK to run my 305 Chevy motor with out the outer drive in place?i am working on lower unit. and need more money to finish.mean time i want to keep up on the engine adjustments and repairs. should i not rev the motor ,even briefly? it is an omc drive 19 87.

Yes you can, inside the boat, unhook the cooling water hose that comes thru the transom shield, then make an adapter to go between that hose and your garden hose.
