My 1998 200 hp Yamaha is running in "Safe Mode" will not get up over 2600 RPM. No Alarms. Out fishing,Shut engine off restarted a few hours later. Sounded funny, Gave it the gas and it would not go over 2600 rpm. Limped all the way home in "safe mode" . Rev's fine in neutral, well up over 2600. Saturday pulled battery cables off and replaced . Now it running fine. Anyone have any suggestions ? ? ? ?

Something like that happend to me the other day I had to take the cowl off and rev the engine up by hand for a couple of minutes like the carbs were gummed up. When was the last time you took the boat out prior to this?

Re: Running in "Safe Mode"

You need to make sure your alarm system works to start out with. And then find a way to isolate and test the different things that will cause the "Safe Mode". So that if and when it happens again you can check to see which one it is or at least eliminate the ones it is not.
