running motor without foot?

I baught a older johnson motor with no foot. Before i spent the money for the foot i would like to know if i could run this motor with no foot. I see the water pump tube, and i can get a hose on it. Is it safe on the motor to do this?

I've run them like that before. Just make sure the water tube is not stopped up with insect nest

It has been garage kept. Guess i'll hook up the hose, turn the water on, and see what happens. Thanks..
