Running temp 1991 70hp Johnson

Have a 1991 70hp Johnson and I recently installed a temp guage and new impleller. At idle there is very little water coming out the exhaust ports but I have a good stream out the T-tail. Temp will go to about 170 degrees. When running the motor the temp drops to 130 degrees. Is the idle temp too high. It also has new theromstat. If I run without the thermostat water is gushing out the exhaust ports at idle. Thanks

Suppose to be like that, your guage is probley off by 10 degrees + side. Lot of changes to cooling system this engine, search for info.
