Running the motor without outdrive oil?

It's probably a stupid question but here goes... I was changing the oil in my Cobra SX outdrive this morning and found there was a water infiltration (milky white oil). Its probably the propshaft seal from what I've read but whatever it is I called a mechanic and will get him to look at it (out of my league...). Anyway that's the background story but my question is can I hook up the rabbit ears and start the motor just to warm up the engine enough so I can change the engine oil? My days pretty much shot from my other larger issue I just want to get something accomplished today before I start drinking my sorrows away lol..

Thanks in advance and yes I know essentially nothing about engines so please be gentle!

I would do it one of 2 ways

Drain the lube and water out and refill with fresh lube, then run motor on muffs
Or remove the drive and connect hose to motor

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... I agree with AD, much of yer drive, turns with the motor, so don't run it with the drive drained,.....
