I have a Volvo GM 8.1 GI-EF engine. MY fuel rail to the injectors has rust in them. Volvo list price is aprox. $1200. for new. GM auto 8.1 fuel rail is as low as $250. Does anyone know if they are the same?

Re: rust in fuel rail

I believe the manifold/fuel rail, etc. are the same between the truck and marine. I know my 8.1 genset engine that I converted to a hot-rod engine for one of my cars had the same injector rail that the suburbans did. that motor then got sold for a boat engine had little done with it to marinize it other than the required electrics, exhaust manifolds and the VP fuel canister.

However if I remember right, the rail was stainless. I would try to clean it first.

Re: rust in fuel rail

Thanks Scott: I cleaned injectors and fuel rail last summer. Rail is made of steel and is the source of my injectors clogging. Was told by Carolina Classic to replace rail to correct my issue and install a water separator rated at 60gph or higher.

Yes they should be the same especially since when GM had a safety recall notice in around 2006 on a potential failure of GM Fuel Rail Damper Retainer on the 496/8.1L engines that affected both MerCruiser and Vovlo engines as well.
