RUST on exhaust?

Hi guys, I've got a 1997 mercruiser 3.0LX engine in my boat, I've discovered some rust from the exhaust elbow, it seems like the gasket may be leaking. Can anyone confirm this? Is this an issue I would need to look at immediately? I do not notice any rust elsewhere on the engine.

Thank you

Yep, gasket's leaking. Replace, sooner rather than later. The longer you leave it, the more the rust will damage the surfaces, and possibly lead to a manifold and/or elbow replacement.

And only use genuine gaskets. The aftermarket ones (and homemade) are complete rubbish... and lead to leaking gaskets.

Will be first on my to-do list then. Any other things I should check for while I'm in there? I heard check flappers as well. I hope the rust isn't too horrible on the inside.

I appreciate the help
