So i bough a DF40 and the engine was seized. I wasn't too concerned about it being all seized up. I bought it for only $250.00 I tore it down and got the crank in half. Looks like the head gasket popped on it and it got water into the oil and then it just sat. the crank has rust all over it and i wanna get it off and the replace the con rods, rings, and bearings. (gonna replace everything but the crank) the block was good. I guess i should have said that i checked the crank to make sure it was in specification and it is. the rust is on the balancers and all over. is there anything that i can do to get the rust off? was thinking of soaking it in something then taking a fine grit emery cloth to it to make it shiny. i dont wanna contaminate the fresh oil....

Lemme know,

Re: Rusted DF-40 crank

Take it to any engine rebuilder in town and have it hot tanked. What's with contaminating fresh oil????? You will have cleaned everything up inside and out and added fresh oil just before you start the engine. You don't need to replace connecting rods unless they are bent or otherwise damaged. You need to replace the rod and main bearings. What do you mean you got the crank in half. The crankshaft is in one piece.
