I have a lot of parts wanting to rust on my motor due to saltwater. I was told to spray it down with WD-40 when I come in to stop this. Is this a good idea and are there any suggestions?
I plan on taking a wire brush to these parts and maybe painting them with a rustoleum engine paint to stop additional rust.

Somebody makes corrosion-guard, maybe crc. Just looked in shop, out of it.
But not wd40, won't last.

Yeah it doesn't seem like it really does a whole lot. I know there has to be something better out there. What would be a good paint to use after I wire brush the rust off?

Lots of people use rustoleum; I use auto engine paint. I can't remember who makes the corrosion guard, but it works. Local auto or hardware store has it.

Thank you. I need to do something before it gets worse.

CRC Corrosion Blocker works great but it needs to be used on regular basis and won't do a whole lot for existing rust. For existing rust I would recommend something like "Permatex Extend Rust Treatment" or "Por 15".

After you get it cleaned and painted with Rustolem (or your favorite paint) THEN use the corrosion guard regularly.
I have found (Thru experience) that the Volvo Penta corrosion guard works wonders. When it goes on, it looks like you washed the engine in blue bubbles. But when it dries (overnight) it looks like paint and feels waxy. And it really stops corrosion.
You also need to find a way to stop salt water from getting on the engine. THAT is Job 1, after you fix that everything lasts longer.

EDIT: Not sure, but I think the CRC Reel Poor mentioned is pink. If that is it, that is the same as Volvo blue.
