Well, I went with my son and his pickup and car trailer to pick up the RX/7 with the engine fire today. The original deal was that he was going to pull the engine and I would get all the rest. Well, we got there and he hadnt pulled the engine.

So I told him that I couldnt wait around for him to do it and we had planned the whole day around picking up this car, so he could give me back my deposit and the deal was off, or we took the car as is. So we got the car with the engine. I now have an extra engine. When I got it to the shop, I disasembled enough so that I could turn the engine over and it seems fine and the oil is very clean. I will do a compression check later. I have the name of the previous owner so I will ask him some questions also. Hey, Its free. I may even tear it apart and reseal everything, I have always wanted to get into one of those rotaries anyway.

The wifes car seems to be the car that wont ever die. :D

Lubedude, it sounds like you've got the kind of luck I used to have :D

My old man would say "You could fall in a cesspit and find a gold rolex!" :D

I'm like you: I'd love to see how Mazda have put that rotary engine together. the only one I've been inside was an old NSU rotary engine from the '70's and that was so long agao I've forgotten most of what I learned

Good luck and get those photos up PDQ

Re: RX/7 parts car

I think I found what caused the fire in the first place. When the owner wired his stereo, he used a cable big enough for the starter. Looked like a batery cable. It ran right across the battery and was actually welded to both battery posts, the battery was blown out on the bottom corner. Costly mistake. [Kids and there stereos]. It wasnt what I would call a bad fire, it didnt even burn the fan belts. Honestly, I think that if he would have found a doner car at a wrecking yard and got the wiring harness, he could have just replaced the wiring, the fan, the fan shroud, and all the plastic ducting for the intake and had it running again. Must have not been mechanically inclined.

Hey lubedude,
YOu want to make that 7 fly check out this site.

www.grannysspeedshop.com

I did a 1985 GSL-SE with a 1996 LT-1 and t-56 six speed.
That car is was a hoot!

I know that your wife rotard motor has lasted for ever but you are one of the lucky ones.

Also small block chevy with aluminum heads and a t-56 is only a few pounds more than the stock set up. So you maintain the 50/50 setup and get the torque that great car deserves.

I know by looking at the pics from your other projects that id you did this it would be done right!!!

Re: RX/7 parts car

I have actually checked into this in the past, I even have all the information printed out in a file at home. I figured if I did it I would go with an HO 4.3 swap. Like I need 300+ HP in my wifes car. It makes a sweet swap, but its also quite expensive to do. Maybe after I do all the work and paint it pretty, and maybe if this extra engine isnt any good, and I win the lottery, and I suddenly become about ten years younger Ill do it someday.

Get the picture. It aint gonna happen. If I was going to do it, I would have kept the Turbo car I had a while back with the blown engine, it was a nice clean car and was worthy of the effort.
