First ? is on the deck, i am to gonna redeck the ol 68 riveria cruiser, (actually restore the girl) and cant get marine plywood (after reading the archives not really sure i would dish out the money for it any way), So i fiqured my options are cdx treated from lowes, or adventech or good ol fashioned plywood. I plan on no carpet but using hurculiner (spray on bed liner) to cover the floor? if i go with the treated from lowes i plan on coating any alumium that comes in contact with the cdx with the spray on liner? will this be enough to proteck the alum.? will the spray liner stick to the cdx? another thing i read from the archives was some leave the bottom untreated so the wood has a chance to dry out. anything wrong with what i am planning (also gonna go to all stainless steel hardware)

2nd ? is what psi should i keep the tubes @ or no psi at all?

If your gonna use untreated plywood i would mix fiberglass resin and hardner in a paint roller pan and roll it on.

i think i am gonna use treated and really coat the aluminum to protect them from the copper in the treatment, then try to to treat un treated wood, ( a whole lot less surface area to treat) some think about earler is if i treat the aluminum will i have to use thinner plywood? currently decked with 3/4 but the liner will add a little so maybe have to go with a size smaller (5/8)? right?
this will be the 1st time i have redecked a toon. tryin to research it as much as possible before the off season when i start the project

I am in the process of redecking my 28', 1988 party hut. It had the deck replaced by the previous owner 2 years ago with CDX. It has already started to corrode the aluminum. It was cracking all over and rotted in two places. If you intend to keep the boat, use marine grade. I know you can get it online and have it shipped.

where did the deck rot out at first, the bottom, around the bolts the stern, etc... mine (which is non treated plywood from a long time ago) has rotted out at the back right corner and around the bolts in the middle, other then that the rest of the plywood is in really good shape esp. in the front (swim deck) which is where i expected it to rot out first

All you really need is to keep them apart, we use a thin foam tape at Benington, getting a coat of bed liner on the crossmembers should work fine

And yes, no air in the tubes,a couple pounds is fine for a leak down test but it won't make the tubes float better, the one that blew wasn't welded correctly, the top seem wondered and only had a tiny bit of one side so when it went under pressure it blew which is what we want, if they can't take pressure in the shop I cetainly don't want them out in the world, that was the last one to go by the way, it is pretty rare.

Funny story, that happened during our dealer meeting so we had dealers from all over the country walking around and when a tube goes it sounds like a bomb going off, somehow noone heard it or though it was normal.

Thankfully none of them were in the building and I ran it out back pretty quick and my air check guy was doing the bottom of the tube so he was okay too, he was jut realy awake after that.

Whatever treated stuff you use, buy it and then let it dry for a month before using it.
Stack it where all surfaces are exposed so it can dry.

That Herculiner might get pricey if you put the recommended three or four coats on the deck.

You might want to work up a Bill-of-Materials list with pricing.
You might find that all the prep and install time to make plywood hopefully last longer than the last installation adds up to quite a bit. The costs should include the needed tools and everything.
Take that gross cost and compare it to what other non-wood alternatives for the deck might cost. And will never need to be replaced yet again in the future.

Check out BORATE treated plywood before going with regular pressure treated stuff. Here is a link to find out all about it. I used it on my pontoon as many others have used it too. Its MUCH cheaper than the stuff from HD & the other supplier & has a 40 yr guarantee against rot. Go to: www.amelialumber.com to read about it & find a dealer in your area. Its well worth looking into. I paid $27.87 a sheet this past April for mine & the other big box stores were asking over $40.00 a sheet for their regular pressured treated stuff. Hope this helps.
