After 37 years, she's finally sputtered her last. On the last ride of the season last summer, the motor sputtered to a halt so we took her in to be checked out. The verdict: they could fix the motor, but said the transom was punky so we were lucky we hadn't ended up at the bottom of the lake by now; they could fix the motor for about $1000 and the boat too, for about $2500 all told. We decided that none of us (three-way sibling ownership) wanted to invest that much in such an old boat.

And what a history she had. At less than one year old, she was wrecked by my brother when his friend ran into him during some foolish teenage horseplay. Luckily, only minor human injuries. Probably that repair was the beginning of the end. But in the meantime, she endured so much and we had so many adventures and memories on the lake...and was it fun-fun-fun!!

Bear with me, no question here, just a fond farewell...

First outboard that I bought 33 years ago looked just like yours (mine was 15')with a 33 on it. We had a great time with it until we decided to get something bigger. That led to a 16' - - that led to a 17' - - that led to -------------- And so the story goes.

Thats a nice looking boat. you should put it up on ebay, I would buy it for parts for my runabout if the price is right.

Well, I'll tell ya, it was really in sad shape by the end. Not much in good shape left on it, but she floated. I wondered (too late) about parting it out but couldn't have swung it.

My '64 Skiflite has rotting wood in the transom, but rather than part it out or junk it, I'll separate the hull and deck, remove the bad wood and glass in some pressure treated ply. The outer transom glass is otherwise intact.

I was sad to see her go, but couldn't swing the complications of 1/3 ownership in the time I had available. With 20/20 hindsight, I'd do it differently next time.

C'Ray, I did grab a new one and agonizingly await my vacation to try it out! :D
