I just got home and started my computer, but instead of loading properly, there was a blue screen which said something like, to continue press enter, or to restart your computer, press crtl, alt, del.
So I pressed crtl,alt,del
But then my computer started in safe mode.
I'm not sure why it would do that?
Anyone have this happen to them?
Maybe I will run my antivirus program.
If it matters, my computer is a E-Machine 566mhz, operating system: ME.
Thanks in advance for any help.
B.C.

What happened the last time you ran your computer? If nothing you may have a virus, even if you don't have a virus here's my suggestion:

Install at least 512mb of memory and then load a fresh copy of Windows XP with sp2.

Windows ME....... uggghhhhhhh.....

it crashed for what ever reason and you usally get a chance to pick a startup mode

safe will start it up with the least things running and give you a chance to FIX what ever was makeing it crash

it might be nothing at all but i have been able to remove things that were causeing problems in safemode and get back to normal use

tommays

Re: Safe Mode....why?

ME does that, the blue screen mean that something didn't get loaded and caused incomplete start up, ctrl/alt/delete normally only restart the comp and then by pressing escape(I think on ME) to get the start up mode menu. The blue screen you see sometime refered to as "the blue screen of death". When in safemode you can check your bootlog to find out what exactly was/were failing and fix it. ME is not a bad operating system, better then WIN98 but not as good as XP. XP is by far the most user friendly operating system.

Nothing happened to the computer last time I was using it.
It loaded properly this morning, no problem.
I will restart in safe mode and see what the problem was.
Thanks,
B.C.

Re: Safe Mode....why?

If it's loading right now, just forget about it. Could just have been a power line glitch or more likely a glitchy power supply. No offence, just eMachines have a bit of a reputation in that department.

Paul Moir,
I think that was the problem. I turned on a whole bunch of electronic equipment at the same time.
That was probably it.
Thanks,
B.C.

Re: Safe Mode....why?

If you do an improper shutdown or a power glitch ME will usually run pc scan first then will start up in safe mode. It should prompt you to restore desktop wnd when you do everything should be normal. If you run Mcaffes or Nortons security center you may have to restart. Sometimes on safe mode these programs do not load or load right. If the problem continues to happen click on run and type msconfig. go to startup and find stuff you dont need and shut it down. You will then be using selective startup and it will prompt you that you are using it for troubleshooting steps.
