Hello all, I have searched my books and on line cannot seem to find a clear answer to my question. I have a 1995 1750 Crestliner Sportfish with a 1996 50hp Evinrude. My question is this: to choke this motor on initial start, you push the key in and hold to prime. I am confused now because to mount my u-shaped safety lanyard to the key switch I am to push in and then slide the lanyard on. Does that not hold the prime on the entire time I'm running? I hope someone has a simple answer, I just want to understand how this is to work. Thank you so much for your time and knowledge.

your lanyard goes on a separate kill switch NOT the ignition switch

Yes, it looks like the safety lanyard is pushing the key in to the choke position, but it is not. Install the lanyard start and run the motor, to assure yourself that the choke is not activated.
