I have a 1995 19' Four Winns OMC Cobra 5.0 V-8.
Motor is creeping down when on trailor. Checked fluid leaks-None found. Should I take pump/motor to shop or whole boat? I am trying to save $$$. If ram seals are needed, could I replace them by myself or even rebuild pump?
jerrykelley@cox-internet.com
New Boater,
Please Help.

Re: Sagging Tilt

Are you using trailering supports for the lower unit? This would take the load off the seals during trailering and storage out of the water.

I am tying off the drive now while in storage and travel. Is this okay to do for a while?

Re: Sagging Tilt

I had this problem last year but i didn't feel confident enough to fix it. Cost me a few bucks for a new seal kit plus a ridiculous amount for labor but it works well now. Just needed to be resealed.

Does the motor go up ok? usually if you have leaky cylinders you will notice that when the motor goes up it will be slower than normal...
More pressure is required to raise motor than lower.. You can also try isolating each cylinder and disconnecting to see which cylinder is bad. I also think on some trim Pumps there is a bleeder screw you may want to check that and make sure that it is not open....

Tallman

Thought I had something to add till I reread the topic line over again. It was so close to something else.
