I opened my thermostat cover and found a horrible sight, a large accumalation of salt deposit caked in the block and engulfing the thermostat and diaphram. I did a impeller change, figuring that the top of the block was not getting water to flush out the area, and that water was not reaching the top of the block. The thermostat is fried...no good.

A couple of questions please

1. If the thermostat was not working, would my 60 HP 1994 OB193260 cut out to protect itself, because I have been having that problem, and I'm wondering if this was the problem all along.

2. What is the best way to clean up the area and inside the block? Is there a solution I can pour in there to disolve the salt buid up?

3. I'm in the process of hunting down a kit after this post.

Thanks
George

Chip it out the best you can. I have heard that vinegar helps. I would not think it would go down too far inside the hole. Usually there is a overflow or realse valve, but I don't know about your engine.
BoatersWorld and others sell a product called salt-away. Do a search from the RED SEARCH button above and see what you find.
