Looking at a 27 Contender with twin Yam 200. It is a 1997 and has 230 hrs on egines. Are they carbs or EFI's. Should I be careful with these engines because there is so few hours on older engines. Any recomendations or heads up to be aware of.

hello
change all the filters including the remote oil tank filter. complete tuneup to include t-stats carb cleaning new fuel pumps and replace the pressure relief valve as well as the water pump kit.
230 hours in 7 years is bordering neglect. that sjust about 32 hours a year. so usually the maint does not get done cause its a low hour boat. that engine should be carbbed. post the model and I can tell for sure.
good luck and keep posting
ps in the owners manual is the chart for 100 and 200 hour services. do all of it. most customers get a 100 hour service every 100 hours and never get a 200 or 300 or 400 and it invariably bite the buttocks

hello
me personally. I like carbs. profesionally I like EFI. EFI is more costly to repair but its a turn key start that I dont have to keep fighting the customer about the starting procedure. and carbs you can clean and keep going. the yamaha EFI as well as some HPDI has an oxygen sensor that can be troublesome as well as a filter on the high pressure pump that costs about 90 dollars and the gasket is another 28 to change it and it takes 45min to an hour to change that filter.and the medium pressure pumps are outrageous. almost 700 dollars
good luck and keep posting
