Same motor, last problem and off to the beautiful Pacific :) . When the engine warms up, out of gear it idles right along at 700-800 Rpm, I can go fast idle 2-3000 rpm and back no problem. If I put it in gear and throttle up no problem, even in gear and barely in, spins the prop and runs fine at 700-800 RPM. But as soon as I drop back out of gear the RPM drops back to 400 or so and then bounces back up to 800 in @ 3 seconds, or more often just dies. Starts right back up at normal 700-800 RPM without a hitch, but does the same everytime I go from in gear to out of gear, anyone have any suggestions, makes docking real interesting.
Thanks for any replies,
Don T

Don....first thing I'd look at was the sync and link. This sounds like the problem to me right off hand. If the low end isn't set up right, it will do just what your describing. Get a OEM manual if you don't have one and follow the sync and link directions. If that don't work, drink heavily and call us in the morning, if yer able. :D :D

No really.....if that don't do it, it could be some low end jets pluggage. Or something a simple as an air leak in a fuel line. Let us know how ya make out.

(EDIT) Took another look at my post. Take a gander around the engine first for old fuel lines that have lost their flex and are stiff. When they get stiff, they tend to loose their grip on the connection nipple they go to. Could be sucking air enough to screw up low end.

Now drink beer.

You may have a shift interupter switch sticking or resistance in your shifting linkage somewhere, since you say the slowdown or "dying" problem starts when you shift out of gear. A very mis-adjusted shift cable can give a similar symptom.

That switch cuts off 3 cylinders to help shifting out of gear, and if it sticks, you "lose" spark on one bank. Check it out using a factory service manual or have a QUALIFIED tech take a look at the shift system.
