First off here are the details on my boat. It has a 5.7 350 with a Mercruiser gen 1 outboard. I was out on the water today just cruising along at say 10mph when all of the sudden the engine revs up but no power. Put it neutral and tried again. The boat would go but if you tried to give it any gas the engine would speed up but no power to the prop. It was doing this in forward & reverse. Going slowly I was able to bring it back in but could not get going any faster than say 4-5mph. I brought it home and it appears that the linkage is fine, did not see any metal in the lowers oil, no water in the lower that I could tell and nothing else out of the ordinary. Hooked it up to the hose and I could not replicate this problem. Seemed like the prop turned fine out of the water. Any suggestions?

Ok... I did some searching and have came to the conclusion that I have spun a hub in the prop. I put the boat in gear and can turn the prop freely clockwise and can turn it with a little effort counter clockwise. The shaft does not turn. Does this sound correct to you guys?

Sounds like a spun prop to me. Put a line across the prop hub, etc and run it and see if it still lines up, if spun it won't.
