Samll engine CC to HP

I noticed that new small engines are all being rated as cc size only and not horspower.

Agreed that there are many factors to convert the two, but is there any estimates to do so?

I'm looking at a used troy-bilt brush chipper that has an 8hp engine, but new models list 205 and 250cc respectively.

There's no ready correlation.

Troy Bilt should be able to give you the HP.

My new Troy Bilt mower gives both CC and HP on the hood.

I checked the web site, and like you say the, the HP is not stated in the specs. I tried to download the manual but a serial number is required. If a phone call doesn't get you the info you need, you might try getting the S/N off one at the store and downloading the manual.

I don't know if this helps but my new T-B mower (vertical shaft) Briggs engine is: 190CC and 6.75HP.

I would suspect that it is a 6-8 HP engine. Probably a Briggs engine, hopefully not Tecumseh, I just do not like them as they are hard starting.

Guess I'm a lucky guy (for once). I bought a 22" pushmower from Wal-Mart back in '94. Has a 5 hp Tecumseh engine on it and it starts first or second pull every time..........even after a winter lay up....and I'm still mowing with it. Now the deck is another story as I've had to weld it back together where it had rusted through but the engine is still going strong. It's my first (and only) Tecumseh to ever own, but there's no complaints here about their starting or lack there of. Everybody's made a lemon and everybody's made a great model of something. Guess for once I bought a cherry... :)
