Took the old boat out first time this year this afternoon with the family. Had prepped fluids, new gas, charged battery. Fired right up. I'm thinking we are all set for another year. I slowly start up the lake and ask my wife to see if we are peeing. She looks and we have NOTHING:confused: I had replaced the impeller last year.

We get to a place, very slowly, where the kids can swim and I can look at the engine.

Looked real hard and the outlet was plugged with sand/dirt. Worked it a little with the ol' trust swiss army knife leather punch blade and still nothing. Grabbed a very small twig from the shore and out came a bunch of sand/dirt and

Two little WORM looking things. Mud Wasp?? or something. Water started draining out. Fired it up and she's peeing like a racehorse.

We're good for another year:cool: Knock on wood.

I have heard similar situation as yours. It makes me wonder, if we should modify our winterizing procedures to include either 1. applying bug spread all around the motor and 2. plug up any small cavity that bug may like to make nice little home. For pee hole, I would guess a small machine screw would work nicely.

Just an idea...

An equivalent or better procedure is to run the engine on hose in the driveway before your first outing, just to make sure that all your system are working.

Just a tought...

It made me think to either cover the hole with tape or plug it with a piece of rubber, like welt cord or some type of auto trim.

See if I remember when i put the boat away this fall

It happed again:mad:. This time the worm was about 1" long.

I'm considering building a screen house for my boat.

I'm really thinking a small piece of plastic tube that would fit in the hole and leave about 6-8" hanging out to make sure I see it and remove it when doing my prelaunch walk around.

What would really be nice would be a spring loaded cover that opens when running and closes when stored.
