I am in the process of replacing the transom and all of the stringers in our 11' runabout. I have sanded extensively with 50 Grit on an angle grinder to cut and remove all of the old stringers and related matting. I have epoxied the new stringers to the hull, and I am now peparing to Glass the new stringers in place.

Question, in order to avoid having to resand the cured (waxed) Resin prior to Painting. Has anyone applied paint directly to the curing resin ?

Thanks in advance

rcb

Never tried that before. You probably be breaking new ground. LOL. As a furniture restorer I have painted over just about every kind of surface material you can think of in the last 28 yrs, including fiberglas etc. Experience tells me that its best to wait for what ever substrate your painting over to finish doing what ever its gonna do before painting over it. Let us know how it comes out if you decide to do it.

rcb if your using poly resins and poly gelcoats theres no problem ,but Not while the resin is still hot let it cool and gelcoat within a a few hours you'll be fine (It takes several days for poly resins to fully cure) although lighty sanding by hand(80-100 grit), just to knock down any loose or wild hairs will make it look better

Yep, And if you're using Epoxy, Just scrub it with soap + water, with a stiff bristle brush after it cures....
Then paint it....
BTW, You Can't use Poly over Epoxy.......
