Re: sandals vacations

not about Negril but the wife and I went to Sandals in St. Lucia last june (honeymoon). It was by far the greatest vacation we have ever been on! A month after we got back we started saving for the next one!

I've been to Sandal Negril once. Don't worry too much about the ATV tours... you won't want to leave the resort for 2 reasons. 1. Jamaica isn't all sun and flowers... be careful if you leave the resort (you'll see what I mean on the bus ride from the airport). 2. The Sandals are really nice and you can stay busy with all there activities for days.

A couple of suggestions....

Go eat before you are hungry. The Jamaican people do not get in a hurry... with anything. You learn about Jamaican time within minutes of arriving....lol

Sign up for snorkling. We had a blast and went several times, but you have to stop by and sign up for the times you wish to go.

Get a massage... the Red Lane spa's that are on site are AWESOME! There services are not included in your vacation, but its money well spent.

And ask for top shelf booze if your getting mixed drinks... you'll get the cheap stuff if you don't ask for the good stuff. And get used to Red Stripe... its the only beer they had when we stayed there. Its good beer, but has a real kick to it if your not used to it.

Have any more questions, just ask. My wife and I have been to 3 Sandals...

Re: sandals vacations

Never been to a Sandals but been to Jamaica several times. Escorted tours are no problem and where we stayed last at Coral Cove, Little Bay for our daughters wedding which is about 12 miles out of Negril is as safe as you can get. The locals are extremely friendly and wonderful people. Went out fishing with one of them in his boat for the day and caught some pretty impressive Kingfish. He was very reluctant to take any money from me for the trip. I gave him $100 U.S. (4 of us on board) and he ended up giving it to our daughter and son in law as a wedding present (without me knowing till we had left) We wandered around anywhere we wanted to in that area and got nothing but friendliness from anyone we came accross. One of the staff took us all to the "Bob Marley house" about half a mile from the resort and also to a swimming and diving hole locally.
I am certain that just like anywhere else there are "No Go" areas but we were never steered wrong there or anywhere else we have been on the island.
The Mayfield Falls tour is all good as is any tour that goes up into the mountains. You will see a lot of traditional "life" up there.
Enjoy.:D:)

Re: sandals vacations

My wife is a travel agent 20+ years and has been two or three times.... she really does not care for the people much so I am guessing it depends where you go on the island.....here is her email tell her navigator sent you christi@travelleaderscarrolltontx.com she will answer your questions.....just consider using her for your next trip...she will match whatever price you can get online
She does not mind telling people about places but, if you ask a ton of questions then book online and do not give her a chance to match or beat the price = not cool,,,,,,, her time and knowledge has value.....plus if she can match the price....why not?

BTW Congratulations

I rode all over that island on a DT 175 and never once had a problem. I am certainally not a menacing person either. But then again I rode in Haiti also.

It's possible to visit Jamaica successfully, without being cooped-up in a resort, if you're an experienced traveller, have your wits about you, are cognizant of the risks, and can tolerate the harassment. However, if you're a generally naive sort of person, and head out into the hills alone expecting to travel through paradise, harsh cold reality may soon intervene. If you can handle it, no problem. If you're not sure, forget about it.

Have fun, Sandals Resorts are very nice.

We now keep our boat in a dock at Wildwood conservation area where we have our trailer. Great reservoir for fishing, tubing, skiing, dog swimming, beach etc. Never too rough to go out either. We spend every spare moment there. In fact just got home about an hour ago. Back Thursday evening though !!! :D

Navigator_Victory thanks for the offer and i can see why that would be upsetting..... my travel agent will also match online prices (and usually beat) hard to beat a good agent..... was just looking for some first hand experience. I would love to pass some business your way but im from canada and a LONG way away lol
