Seems like overkill plus one.

I run a full complement of electronics and have no problems keeping my batteries charged with a Blue Sea ACR for $100.

I agree that to some it might seem like overkill but when you consider that my batteries on my inboard get charged backup to full in no time at all compared to never getting fully charged it makes sense. Since I started using one on the North River my two Group 29 Rolls deep cycle batteries went from testing poor in about a year to testing perfect after two years. Rolls support clued me in on using the SAR. I don't know how much longer they'll go but it's at the point now where it's almost break even on the cost.

The Blue Sea unit is o.k. for most but I took mine out because the quaility of the components were not all that good. It will drain a battery on it's own. The isolators that I use drain about 1 amp hr (ah) per year. The blue sea is about 3ah a month even though they advertise a lot less. If you've ever checked your batteries after they've sat unused for a month you'll find them at about 85-90 pct. That's the Blue Sea ACR.

I don't have that problem. I use my cut-off switch when the boat isn't in use. Kind of hard for an ACR to drain off current when it's disconnected from the system.
