NO.
Different frequencies.
Your receiver is analog, Sirius is digital.
Sirius is encoded.

Sorry, ya just gotta let go of some of tha pirate treasure and get a real radio! ;)

Crabby,

I think you may be able to. I have and old Sansui (garage-kick butt system).

It has jack receptacles on the back that I could plug the Sirius system right into.

The only issue I have is that satallite radio is mono, not stereo. :( Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Don't know.

Love the variety and crystal clear reception that Sirius offers.

Re: satellite radio update

I know what will happen with Sirius---the same thing that happened with cable TV...at first there were no commercials. Then Katy bar the door!

Ya know, now I am wondering, and second-guessing myself. I could swear there were no commercials on cable TV when it hit the market in the late 60s or early 70s, but as I think about it I am wondering how they made 22-minute episodes of Green Acres last the full half-hour.

Hmmm...

-RR-

I'm thinking the same thing Dogsdad... It'll happen.

AS much as I'd like to get Sirius, I can't justify the cost vs. the time I'm in my truck.
It's a great system for those on the road, or listen to a lot of radio at home.

Personally, I tune into lots of internet radio.. It's free!

H.

Re: satellite radio update

Sorry Crabait, I mis=read your question. Both of the sattelite radio systems that you use in the house require a means to hook up via an audio jack.
if all you have is an antenna connection, you are still most likely out of luck.

Re: satellite radio update

yeah,, i thought so.. there's a whacky korean nearby that sidelines electronic repairs in garage.. one of those type places thats a total MESS an only a NARROW cross path that you can barely squeeze by in garage..

STUFF EVERWHERE..!!

after bout a 7 minute communication with him with alot of stick drawin' in the dirt.. he mayhaps could install the 'plug' outlets' i need..

he's good at it.!! an for a couple bucs..

yeah,, i fear it's 10 bucs now for satellite radio.. in 5 years,, $19.95..

not a huge stern fan.. but gotta hear him 'unrestricted'..

i listen to alot of stereo here at home .. but never never never listen to stereo while driving..

i love/i must drive in silence ..

Re: satellite radio update

stern is going to be premium sirrius not in the base package. An extra $10 a month from the rumors, on top of your $10 for basic.

Just like cable.

Also these guys are pretty clear that the music is commercial free NOT the other broadcasts.

Although I am puzzled on why sirrius would advertise on its on channels about getting sirrius??

Sort of like once you buy a computer you get all these mailing to buy a computer, when in reality you just bought one!

Sirius is not commercial free. However, it's nothing compared to regular radio.

I use the system mostly in the car. I have many areas I travel through that have no to little radio reception (outlying AZ and NM). It has been a Godsend for that.

Re: satellite radio update

I snooped around EBay a bit and found several auctions for "Free SIRIUS Xact Satellite Radio from Howard Stern"

The seller is auctioning a promotional code so you can supposedly get the system for free.

Well, a little 'Googling', and I found this (cut and paste):

Free Sirius Radio (with slight catch)
So I just made a 28-seconds-remaining impulse purchase on eBay for a coupon code for a free Howard Stern Sirius Satellite Radio. The catch, which I didn't realize before bidding, was that you have to pre-purchase a year of service for $142.45. The coupon cost me $0.99, so I'm giving it away here for free. You have to use it by Wednesday.

Go to this page, enter Promo Code is 263 and use referral id HS9874.

After going through the purchase, please comment here so I know it's already been used.

November 23, 2004 10:31 PM

Comments
thats nice of you to post, but you can actually get that without the code. i saw that sale on ebay too, and i just googled "free sirius", did about 15 min of searching, and took advantage of that deal. Not bad considering the equip normally costs $150, and youd have to pay for the service anyways!

Posted by: xxx at December 1, 2004 11:31 PM
So don't fall for the BS auction! You can get that code for free with a little searching (the one above is expired), and as mentioned above... sounds like you don't need the code at all.

I just watched an auction close for $25 for the code. What a rip off. The seller should be strung up!

H.

Re: satellite radio update

I have my XM base unit plugged into an analog input on my Onkyo 602 receiver. The base station has a power docking for the XM receiver and the antenna unit wired into it. Works great.
I just take my XM receiver out of the truck and dock it in the house....

I'm with Robby... haven't seen any form of satellite radio here in Aus yet, however maybe I'm blind AND deaf! How's it work and is there a good site to have a look at the system?

www.sirius.com

If I spent more time in the car, I'd probably get it. In the mean time, I listen over the internet.

H.

Re: satellite radio update

Crabby,

That is how my car system works, through the FM.

It's never a problem until I drive into Southern California. Every low channel, there, on FM is covered up with "ethnic" stations.

Find out what stations your set would have to be set at. As I recall, my set up has the following FM selections. 88.1, 88.3, 88.5, 88.7, 88.9.

Dial into those first. If there is anything on them, your sat. reception will be "fuzzy". If you can find a clear frequency, it will work great.

Re: satellite radio update

Had a look at the website and can't find what the coverage is... is it USA only or world-wide as per GPS? I could have asked this question via the "contact us" link on the sirius site but you guys seem to know heaps, so it's worth a shot.
