Re: Saturn

Jupiter is pretty low on the horizon now but still visible as are it's moons. I've been seeing saturn above the three stars of Orion and to the right of the moon between 7-9pm. It doesn't look like much to the naked eye, but when you zoom in on it the rings just jump out at you as it is tilted slightly away from us, it's really neat.

We have been trying to. But overcast Sky's and rain. Going out to the cabin next weekend and will try from there. However we did get a close look at the moon about two weeks ago! Wow! I bought a inexpensive Bushnell telescope last year but it's amazing what all you can see with it.

Funny, I just spent Sunday with my daughter(8)building the Earths solar system. Came out real nice. I've got to get myself a telescope so I can show her the real McCoy

You never know, you may just open a door for her to lead her into a career as an astronaut, astrophysicist, or rocket scientist :)

When you decide to get one, steer clear of the dept. store stuff. Most of it is junk. A real good set of binoculars is the best start.

Re: Saturn

Having played with telescopes myself, keep in mind that just as important as the optics quality is the quality of the mount. Those cheap dept store telescopes come with such a cheasy mount that it is frustrating to lock on anything smaller than the moon, and every little breeze makes your scope shake so much its no fun.
