How do you guys feel about scarfing in a piece of wood on a engine mount stringer?
It has to be cut back to get in new transom anyway.
It would be cut back at a 10:1 ratio glued then tabbed to the transom and existing stringer.

I think I saw a twitter post from the FDA that its actually very bad to ingest wood and wood by products... I would avoid scarfing plywood at any cost....

Joking aside... totally fine as long as your overlap is pretty long, 10:1 should be plenty.

my first question is did you do enough investigation to make sure that your stringers are only partially damaged. every boat I have ever done the stringers are usually 100% wet, half rotted, the bulkheads they touch need attention, the foam needs replacing, and the deck needs to be pulled.

very rarely can you simply scab on a section of stringer

Here's a link. Do both sides of the stringers. Scott makes a good point. If you did not do your due diligence you be ripping up the floor again.

This is what the stringers looked like when I opened it up. I didn’t think they looked bad. You guys tell me.

I was gonna open them all the way to the bulkhead to check

On mine i had my mind made up. If there is one bad part replace it all. And it had a little rot here and there. But then there was 2 places it was just ridiculously gone where I never checked. It is wood it wicks. if it is wet in one place it is all wet. If it rot in one place bet your bottom dollar it spread.

Question you need to ask yourself. Do you want to do it now while your doing it anyway and have a solid boat for as long as you take care of it. Or use it a summer or 2 and do this again 3 foot away from what your doing now.

Choice is yours.
