When trolling at 2-3mph my down rigger cables emit a high frequency whine noise. Bigger cable or different weight cannon balls might change this? Does anyone know if this spooks the fish?
That whining sound is music to my ears. It tells me that I'm trolling the correct speed. It never has scared the fish I catch. Usually they don't get scare until they see the boat. They have different (non metalic) types of cable available for downrigger use. It's realatively new to me and I havent heard much about it as far as how well it works. I'll continue to listen to my cable whine. There is one thing you can do if it bothers you too much. Turn up the music.
