I got a new crank kit for my rebuild and somewhere along the line we scarred it somehow and I wanted to know if it would be ok to use. Its kind of like a nick from a bolt or something. Question 2 is...when you tighten rocker arm nuts do you rotate the engine to do each cylinder in the firing order or is that false?

Re: Scarred crankshaft !

Is any part of the nick proud? If not what dimensions is it and how is it 'laying'? I'd take the crank to a machine shop and have them linish it. The rockers should be done at TDC of the power stroke of each cylinder if it's a chevvy. If it's a Ford then torque them up to book spec (20 Ft. lb. from memory).

Chris..........

Have the crank refinished to avoid taking out a new bearing. The lifters can be adj.at t.d.c.#1 cyl.for half of them and the other half after turning the eng. over to t.d.c.for #6cyl.on a GM 8cyl.This will get you close. The best and most accurate is to adj.them running.
