My marina already has started putting all types of boats into winter storage.
The Yamaha marina Is moving new, unsold, roadside boats, to the remote winter storage area. Never this early. And we are having a great summer weather.

On the St. Lawrence RIver between N Y and Canada. There has been no cruise ships on the river this summer. All large freighter traffic is almost none existent. WE normally have ocean and loads of Great Lakes freighters every day.

I have heard the ports are empty as well. They were overcrowded a month ago. I suspect the ports were crowded with ships loaded with goods to be delivered pre tariffs.

Now, I will speculate that the manufacturers of imported goods are waiting to see what tariffs and when tariffs will begin or stick.

We were just up to the St. Lawrence a week ago. Stayed in Alex Bay right on the river. Just a casual observation, but the number of ships we saw every day looked about normal to us. This was our 36th vacation in the Islands.

It has been an extremely hot Summer in NY. We hit records several times. My pool got more use than normal. However the boat got less use. There were days is was actually too hot to go fishing.

Then, 3 days ago it all changed. 89 one day, 77 the next, and today 63. I even ordered my Winter pool cover today. I haven't seen any boats go on the hard yet, but the forecast id below normal temps for the next month, so I expect it won't be long.

That is unusually early. They might be making space for more service work or preparing for an early winter haul-out schedule. I'd ask the marina manager what's up. Enjoy the great weather while it lasts.
